The Congress officially started off last night.
Special attention is given to the Iberian Lynx and the potential transmission of diseases common to domestic felines.
Punta Umbría’s Barceló Huelva Convention Center is the venue holding the V Andalusian Veterinarian Congress on Pets which started yesterday. This Congress is organised by the Andalusian Council of Veterinary Associations and 700 veterinarians have met in it to discuss on the veterinary field of pets, mainly the dog and the cat. This year the scientific event is focused on the analysis and study of three areas that attract the interest of the professionals who take care of our pets’ health: Animal Neurology, Internal Medicine or several updating sessions on fields like Oncology, Dermatology, Traumatology and Ophtalmology.
This V Edition of the Veterinarian Congress specialised in Pets has particularly dealt with the Iberian Lynx, its main purpose being that Andalusian vets get closer to that animal from the scientific perspective. So, during the morning today, several presentations and papers have been developed about scientific issues related to this animal in danger of extinction, such as anaesthesia in the Iberian lynx or disease transmission between the lynx and the domestic feline. And vets have been given account of the different disease control plans that are carried out at baby lynx rehabilitation centres. This is the beginning of a system which coordinates the Andalusian vets specialised in domestic felines and the vets in charge of the Iberian Lynx Ex˗situ Conservation Programme.
The Pet Specialist Veterinarian Congress was officially inaugurated last night by the Junta de Andalucía General Director, Macarena Bazán, the Vice-president of Huelva Provincial Council, Ignacio Caraballo, and the President of the Andalusian Council of Veterinary Associations, Fidel Astudillo. This is the most important professional congress of the South of Spain and the one that attracts the highest number of attendants. 40 commercial firms have been present in this V edition and they have exhibited their products at a host of stands.
